Land Rover Repair: gearbox fault, land rover service, clutch mechanism

Question
i have a 1999 range rover 4.0 se and my problem is that suddenly the 'gearbox fault' message came up on the screen. it reverses fine but doesnt accelerate for crap. this happened out of nowhere as the rover has been driven gentley. i have no clue to whats going on. can you please help?

Answer
This can only be checked by a T4 diagnostic equipment in a Land-Rover service.
The most common problem the shifting stick position sensor doesn't give a precise signal to the contrl unit.
If the car wont move forward it might be the first gear "clutch" mechanism, but it's very rarely.
You cannot do anything by homemade, you must go to the service to read the fault code from the controller unit.

Good luck
