Land Rover Repair: Front Passenger Window Inoperable, john thanks, tight space

Question
John,

Thanks for the great advice in the past No more water sounds from behind the dash! Here's another one for you:

I have a 2000 Discovery. The front passenger window made a noise one day and now it's stuck (luckily it's only open about 1/4". I removed the inner door panel but I can't figure out how to get any further with the disassembly.

It looks like the gear is out of alignment preventing it from raising or lowering the window.

Any resources as far as going forward with this?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Christian,

You'll have to lower the window further to see exactly what's gone wrong.  The frame may have broken or lost a rivet weld.  I have popped mine back into place but it cost me a few bruises on my knuckles.  It's a tight space to work in.

Be careful within that area.  It would be easy to get injured if you don't know what you are doing.

I had my window frame rust out (common for Disco I) and I replaced this myself.  It was really difficult because of the small workspace.  Use tape to hold the window up and lower the frame down to work on any replacements.  When you've replaced the broken part, carefully lower the glass and refit.

You've got to determine what is broken and go from there.  If rust has caused the sliding gear to pop out of the 'runner', you'll have to replace this or you'll be working on this problem every weekend.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
