Land Rover Repair: 99 disco II power door lock d.s., lithium grease, rear doors

Question
o.k i let my mother use my rover and now the drivers side door does not unlock or lock using the power lock's in the car nor on the key fob all others work fine should i start with the actuator or is there something im not aware of??Also if my doors are locked and i try to open my rear door it wont unlock unless i bang the hell out of the license plate light/door handle what up with that???????

Answer
Hi Anthony,

put away the hammer...try opening the rear door via the inside latch next time.  You'll have to lubricate the hinges, lock and latch.  Remove the LandRover logo and lub the outside door handle too. Use lithium grease as it keeps water away...the rear doors worse enemy is water and rust!

As for the key fob and door locks, this is another common problem with LR.  Your best bet is to have LR adjust the door locks to make sure they are working properly.  If the lock switch is not working properly, you could try changing them.  I would bench test the door actuator before just simply replacing them.

Best of luck,
