Land Rover Repair: About to stall...95 DISCO I, throttle position sensor, air meter

Question
John,

I have a 1995 Disco I.  I finally have it back on the road after three alternators in a month (all rebuilds).  I have noticed that when I am at a stoplight and press the gas peddle to take off, the car seems as if it is about to stall for about 1-2 seconds, then drives just fine.  Is this a vaccuum issue?  Let me add that my wife lost the gas cap a month or so ago and put one on "that seemed to fit."  Could that have anything to do with it?  Thanks alot!

Answer
The running of a 1995 Disco will not be affected by the gas cap.

Hesitation on takeoff could be timing, a throttle position sensor, an air meter fault, or something else.  If you get a workshop manual for the car you'll find a complete step by step procedure to test the pieces with ordinary shop tools.
