Land Rover Repair: 1997 Range Rover 4.6 HSE idling, throttle position sensor, engine management system

Question
My RR 4.6HSE is idling at 1250 rpm at cold and 1200 at hot air con off.

Any suggestions.

Answer
Hi Les,

your Rangie should idle at 700rpms (+-20).  This is control by the engine management system.  You'll have to investigate further to see what sensors are triggering this.  I have seent the TPS (throttle position sensor) cause high revs on my Disco.  Not too expensive to replace. I've also seen the MAF sensor fail...very expensive.  You'll have to run diagnostics to try and isolate the failing component.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
