Land Rover Repair: 02 freelander 138000mls, electrical faults, manifold problems

Question
Im thinking of buying this car, I ran carfax on it it was a one owner vehicle. I had it ran for codes and it came back with 5, p0430, p1472, p1477, p1475, p1471. Its a clean car and seems to run fine. Wondering if these codes are a sign of something big and whether I should get involved in this deal.

Answer
Hi Ian,

are you willing to buy ANY vehicle that has recorded faults stored within its computer module?  Land Rovers are very expensive to service and judging by these codes, it could be intake manifold problems, electrical harness faults, MAF problems, perhaps even catalytic trouble.  Who knows if there is cat damage - especially if there were electrical faults on both banks of the inlet manifold.  Have it tested by a dealer or an independent LR specialist.  A dealer would be very glad to offer their services and they will detail all the work they would like to do on this Freelander.  You could also determine what service was done and what recalls were performed.

Then you should look at the JD Powers evaluations on this vehicle - it may influence your decision to know how satisfied owners are with their Freelanders.

Best of luck,
JohnMc
