Land Rover Repair: Rear Door, brake light switch, haynes manual

Question
I'm a new owner of an old 97 Disco. I've had it less than two
weeks and so far this site has helped me replace my LCD clock
bulb, the credit card trick works like a charm. I also soldered a
broken switch back on the keyless remote and now that works
perfectly.

My rear door latch opens ok, but when it is unlocked by the
central locking the knob drops down to the lock position again,
and I have to open it with the key in the rear door. Is this an easy
fix or do I need a new actuator ? Is the Haynes manual a good
guide for the doors and interior and general none engine fixes.. I
don't think it covers my 4 litre engine ?

I got stuck in Park on day 6 of ownership, and needed to be
towed. It was the usual brake light switch, and looking for this
problem took me to this site !

One good thing about the breakdown was that I found a great
local independant Land Rover Garage for the mechanical side of
things.

Answer
Hi Jon,

you're luckier than most...you've found a reliable mechanic.

Hayes does cover our Series I Disco's, including your 4.0 engine.

As for the rear door lock dropping...this comes with age...some say lots of thing drop with age...hmmm.

The Haynes manual does refer to a method of adjusting the lock.  Peeling off the panel and locating the right rod that is threaded is the trick.  It then becomes a time consuming effort of adjust and test...and adjust and test...

BTW: Works this way for all doors.

Best of luck,
