Land Rover Repair: 97 Disco Cruise Control, plastic nuts, hi adam

Question
I've found a fantastic DIY troubleshooting guide for failed CC.
However, the guide requires you to remove the ECU connector
found in the dash, and using a multimeter - test the individual
components to determine what's died.  I've just one problem.  How
in the hell do you remove this plug?  I've tried everything I can
think of - it will not budge.  There are no prongs, clips, or tricks
that I can see.  Please help!

Answer
Hi Adam,

here's what LR has to say:

CRUISE CONTROL ECU - V8i
Service repair no - 19.75.49
Remove
1. Remove lower dash panel.
2. Disconnect ECU multi-plug.
3. Remove ECU fixing.
4. Remove ECU.
5. Reverse removal procedure. Ensuring that electrical multi-plug is securely reconnected.

Adam, I think it's one of those multiplugs that are just stubborn to remove.  LR repair manual only has artist's sketch as a reference.

In the Disco II, there are two plastic nuts that hold the casing of the ECU. They remove the nuts and slide out the ECU to do the final multiplug removeal.

Perhaps you can do this with the ECU in your Disco I?  I refer to step 3 above... it may clear up why the multiplug is holding so hard.

Best of luck,
