Land Rover Repair: engine wont start, static discharge, starter motor

Question
Well this complicated I have an 01 disco se7. about four months ago while pulling a trailer the engine quit all the lights came on and I pulled it to the side of the road. It did this about 8 more times in a ten min. period. It was rainingg out at the time, I got to my destination let the car sit and it never did it again. The whole time I have owned this car (about a year now) The radio has had a constant whine that you can here through the speakers when on. I'm thinking alternator, but I never changed it out. Well now to the current problem. I parked the car overnite set the alarm and the next morning nothing she turns over fine but thats it she won't fire up. I am stumped. need help. The dealer is going to soak me.

Answer
Hi Chuck,

so the problem is two-fold;  you have a static discharge that the radio is picking up, the starter motor turns over but no spark nor firing of engine.

Could be related:  coilpack.

I've seen this on my Buick.  The coilpack developed a short and it was being picked up by the radio.  I could actually hear the engine as I accelerated.  Eventually, I began to have starting trouble and finally it just died.

Coilpack is my guess.  If battery is ok, alternator is ok.

Test them all and let me know what happens.
