Land Rover Repair: Do Discoverys have a PCV valve, breather element, pcv valve

Question
I have a 1995 Discovery. Everytime I go into an oil change place they tell me I need a new PCV valve (Because there is oil all over the engine).  I called landrover and they said there is no PCV valve.  The parts guy said if you are facing the truck, on the left valve cover there is a little breather element which acts as the PCV valve.  He also said they very rarely get clogged and very rarely need to be replaced.

Is this true? If not how does the the Discovery deal with venting gasses from the block?  What is a sign that a breather element is clogged?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Answer
Hi Nik,

yes, its true.

You can remove the breather and clean it if you wish.  Some owners have been known to soak it in gasoline for an hour and then thoroughly dry for 2 hours.  When you remove the breather and oil starts dripping out...its time to clean or replace it.

Oil all over the engine...maybe you need new rocker cover gaskets.

Best of luck,
