Land Rover Repair: 2005 Range Rover brakes, 2005 range rover, hi adam

Question
Took my 2005 Range Rover in to rotate the tires today and noticed the brake pads are thin.
The vehicle is nearing 30,000 miles.

It appears the brake assembly is BMW issue.

Any special tools / techniques I should be aware of if I decide to tackle the pad replacement?

Is there a difference in the OE Land Rover pads and BMW pads?
Is there an aftermarket brand that you feel would be a good replacement?

Any differences in technique front vs rear?

Also, is there an online source that provides a step by step repair?

Wow – that's a lot of questions.

Thanking you ahead of time for your help.

Answer
Hi Adam,

here are a couple of sites you can try:

http://www.rangerovers.net/  <---- this is the best!
http://www.rangie.com/

there are aftermarket pads: Jurid, PBR, Textar and Pagid

all are priced around $80.

Being a mere Disco owner, I've never had the chance to work on a Rangie.  I've seen the pads and I don't think its that much more difficult than my Disco.  As for which pads to buy - that's your call.  Your brakes are the most important safety feature on your Rangie.  Rangies have always had the best brake system in the LR family of vehicles.

On my Disco, I use Raybestos pads.  I like them and have used them for 4 years.  It helps to know someone who works for the company that makes these pads.  Good quality, even better prices!  Semi-metallic and they don't damage the rotors.

Raybestos #PGD992M for your front set, #PGD683M for your rear set.  Should be available at most auto shops.  Raybestos make fine rotors too (not that you should be needing them on your '05 Rangie).

Best of luck,
