Land Rover Repair: Front window LR Disco 2001, auto electrician, rear windows

Question
My front driver side window will not go back up.  I have taken the door face off.  I can't get the window to raise manually, and it seems impossible to replace the motor.  Suggestions?

Answer
Hi Lance,

I've been searching for a website that might be able to shed some light on this problem for you.

The trick would be to by-pass the window ecu and give the window motor a direct current to raise the window.  I heard other owners who've done this but I'm not sure myself.  On the older Disco's its much easier to do as the openings seem larger.

An owner once wrote that he had so many problems with the windows, he hired an auto electrician to individually wire each window and simply disconnect the window ecu from the 'loop'.

Perhaps this is something you could do, assuming that your problem is NOT the window motor itself.

Best of luck,

JohnMc

NB:  if I ever have some free time, this is what I'll be doing. My two rear windows do not open and close reliably.
