Land Rover Repair: 1994 Discovery Rear Wheel - pasanger side, wheel bearings, brake caliper

Question
I own a 1994 LR Disco. My rear right hand tire is wearing out a lot but only on the outside edge, to the point wher a tire look almost new except the outside edge of it, where you could see wires starting to show up. Also, the same wheel, the brake caliper gets stuck every now an then (not in totaly closed position, but bad enough to heat up the whole wheel). It has been replaced a few months ago but it still couses the same problem.

Thank You

Answer
Hi Arthur,

that's a serious problem you've got there.  Could be axle related or could be suspension trouble. A suspension specialist should be contacted.  As for the caliper problem, it could be related to the wheel problem.  You may have to address the brake problem again.  Have the wheel, axle and suspension checked out and repaired then check the brake to see if its seizing up on you.

Strange that you had the brake serviced and the problem came back.

My father had a similar problem on his Cadillac.  The rear wheel was overheating because the brake was seized.  He had to have the caliper, wheel and wheel bearings all replaced due to the enormous heat that was generated.  This could be your trouble.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
