Land Rover Repair: AC condensation leaking into cab, witches hat, water vacuum

Question
Noticed H20 dripping down from under the dash on the passenger side of my 99 Disco II. Came from just where the underside of dash makes the bend into center console.  Pulled up both front rubber mats and the carpet is soaked on both sides! Living in PA and there's been little rain, but it's been VERY humid and AC has been running all the time.  Any thoughts?  Is there some drain off from AC that could be plugged, and how do I get to it.  THANKS!  PS - nearest dealer is 1+ hour away.

Answer
Hi Doug,

Yes, there is a AC drain that often becomes plugged resulting in a backup and water in the footwell.  To locate this drain, look under the car at mid-point of the front doors.  You'll see a tip that looks like a witches hat up by the floor pan.

You could insert a wire into it this tip to clear it, however, most owners rip the 'witches tip' off.  Look on both sides of the center console from underneath.

It's common for them to plug up and backfill into your footwells.  You'll have to lift up the carpeting and allow the water to dry out.  Use a water vacuum to remove most of the water then let air dry for at least a day.

My question is, "Who thought of this and why has it plaqued Disco's since '95"?  Let's hope the LR3 has this fixed.  Anyone from Ford listening....anynone?

Best of luck,

JohnMc
