Land Rover Repair: Replacing rear mud flaps, bolt and nut, mud flaps

Question
I have a 1995 Discovery 1 and can't undo the securing haedware for the mudflaps. Are there special tools for this or what are the hints to do this.

Thanks

Frustrated.

Answer
Hi Ken,

if the condition of your brackets are anything like my '95 mudflap brackets, you'll have to cut them off with a fine metal saw blade.

These rivets were installed by the factory and I think its the only way to remove them.  Use a 'Skil' saw with a fine metal blade and hack thru the rear of rivet where there is much more metal to grab hold of.  Make sure the blade is as low as possible on the rivet, next to the bracket.

Once the rivets are removed replace them with the same size bolt and nut combo.  Besides, its better this way. Later on, you'll be glad you switched to nut and bolds...easier to replace and clean.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
