Land Rover Repair: Clutch on Defender Td5, clutch replacement, defender td5

Question
I have a 2001 (w reg) Defender Td5 with 59,000 miles. The vehicle has never towed anything and I am wondering what the life expenctancy of the clutch might be. At present there are no immediate problems but I didn't really want to leave a clutch replacement to the last minute when it starts to slip. Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Phil,

I don't think you have much to worry about.  Early this spring, the clutch on my '95 Disco (320,000Kms) finally failed.  The LR mechanic I know told me he installed a defender clutch instead of the OEM original.  The defender clutch is known to be more reliable and longer lasting and just happens to match my Disco.

So unless you are experiencing problems now, I'd not worry about your clutch for at least another 100,000 miles.
