Land Rover Repair: 95 Discovery A/C climate control problem, landrover discovery, john thanks

Question
Hi John. Thanks for your time.
I have a '95 Landrover Discovery with an A/C problem. The drivers side blows cold air, but the passenger side is more like vent when both are at the full left position. In the winter with the heat on the passenger side is much hotter when both are in the full right position.
The rear A/C seems to be fine throughout.

Do you know what could cause this? I have taken apart the dash/control assembly and that didn't seem to be the problem because, as I remeber it, there is only one way to put the knobs on, well, without totally mis-alligning them 180 degrees.

I'm just wondering if it could be under the hood.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Justin,

not so much under the hood but...it could be the heater core.  I think its located closer to the passenger side and that explains why the heat is higher on the that side in the winter.

There may be a blockage, although small, in the heater core.   You could consider flushing the core to see if any blockage is starting to form.

The blower passes the cooled air thru the vents and MAYBE there is something blocking the area that is blown over to the driver's side.  I took a look on my '95 Disco and there is not much to check from the engine compartment.

I dread ever having to remove the dashboard to work on my heater core.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
