Land Rover Repair: Check Engine Light, vacuum hose, negative cable

Question
1996 Discovery, 4.0L fuel injected,w/automatic transmission.  156,000 miles. Engine had rough idle (slight miss possibly) just after starting until it warmed up.  Did not appear too serious and symptom was neglected since rough idle went away after warm up... Check engine light came on.  Inspection found a vacuum hose leak (cruise control) and the hose between the plentum chamber and left valve cover cracked.  Repairs made. Check engine light remains on.  Does it have to be reset after detecting a fault, or does correcting the fault extinguish the light?

Many thanks........

Answer
Hi Lane,

yes, you'll have to reset the diagnostic system by disconnecting the negative cable on the battery for a few seconds.  When you reattach the cable, you'll have to enter in the security code on your radio/CD.

THEN

Start up your Disco and wait (finger's crossed) to see if the code or new codes appear.  Any time you service the vechicle after a Check Engine light is shown, you should reset the system to verify the work was successful OR to reveal any other problems that are hidden.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
