Land Rover Repair: Discovery 2000 diesel, land rover discovery, hi adam

Question
I just bought a Land Rover discovery 2000 diesel automatic from the agency in Costa Rica. It has 114000 km on it and it worked good for 1 week. All of a sudden 5 yellow lights appeared on the dash ABS,TC, descent control, etc. A red battery light appeared and 2 green lights M and S. The motor lost power and on arrival to the agency it did not turn on any more. My question is: Is this really serious? What is it? Will this continue after they fix it? Please help me. Was it a bad purchase?

Answer
Hi Adam,

the problem you describe is common for Series II Disco's and LR dealers know exactly how to fix this.  The HDC, ABS and TC (or three amigo's) are all linked together.  The battery and the green M and S lights combined makes me think you had a charging failure.

May not be as serious as all that.

If it turns out to just a charging problem, it should not return for many years.  You'll have to await the analysis of your mechanic to see what components were affected.

I doubt your 2000 Disco was a bad purchase.  If I was to purchase a used Disco, the 2000 would be my first choice.  A lot of problems were corrected by the time that model was released.

When the results are available, send me a note and I'll give you my comments.

Good luck,

JohnMc
