Land Rover Repair: Steering damper, steering damper, wheel alignment

Question
Hi JohnMc,

I suspect I'm in trouble. I've allready tryed wheel alignment with no results and no feedback about possible problems. I've also changed tyres - not because of the pull but because it was needed :)! No problems with brakes also.
As you (very well) stated: "OUCH!"
I'll try the new damper and then... we'll see! The proble is that  it will serve as a "camouflage" for some other serious problem.

Answer
Hi Jose,

if the wheel alignment was successful and you trust the mechanic who performed the alignment, you can be satisfied that no balljoints are damaged.

Its possible it could be the swivel pin or even an axle.

Has this Disco been in an accident?  Sometimes, with accidented vehicles, if the frame was twisted/bent then repaired, the vehicle could have a 'pull' to one side.  Could this be the case with your Disco?

The other possibility could be your coil and shock.  If its failing on one side, this too could cause a 'pull' of sorts.

The damper reduces the vibrations to the steering box and eventually the steering wheel.  It can't hurt to change the damper on your Disco and it may improve the steering capability.

If you have a serious suspension problem, I don't think the damper will hide the 'feeling' that something is wrong.   I hope the damper solves your trouble and let me know how things work out for you.

adiós,

JohnMc
