Land Rover Repair: SUSPENSION, hr job, suspension components

Question
HELLO.  I HAVE AN 98 DISCO 1 WITH 77,000 MILES. I AM HAVING NEW FRONT/REAR SUSPENSION INSTALLED AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD ANY TRICKS OF THE TRADE FOR INSTALLING THE FRONT SUSPENION. THE TRUCK HAS THESE INCASINGS AROUND THE RODS, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO REPLACE. I WAS TOLD THE FRONT END WOULD TAKE 4.5 HR TO REPLACE AND 1.5 IN THE REAR.  IS THIS REALLY A 6 HR JOB???

Answer
Hi Logan,

if you are having the ENTIRE suspension replaced, yes - it will take at least 5 hours.

The front suspension is more complicated due to the many components involved with steering.  The 4.5 hr quote is about right. As for the rear, it has no steering linkages et.al and thus is easier to replace.

Let me know if you are doing the installation.  I'll look around for websites to help you out.

With that mileage, you may consider having your oilpan gasket replaced since the suspension components are already being removed.  If its not leaking - leave it alone, but if it is leaking, now's the time to have a new gasket installed.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
