Land Rover Repair: 1998 Disco Vibration, vacuum lines, coil pack

Question
I have a vibration right before 1700rpm to 2000rpm or right before the shift. I checked vacuum lines, changed fuel filter, changed spark plugs and wires, ran techtron fuel cleaner twice on two tank fuels of gas. Had it to the dealer they said misfire code was there. But they could not say for sure what was wrong they suggested maybe sticking exhaust value? I say it idles smooth and has good power. So what next Coil Pack? Could I be sensing a drive train problem? Thanks Ken

Answer
Hi Ken,

its true that some Disco engines are prone to have sticking exhaust valves that require a valve job to resolve. The fact that you have good power and smooth idle makes this cause look remote.  Most times, the sticking valves show up on hot days or long trips.

Its a tough call for drive train problems.  They are rare and I hardly see any Q's about them.  The discription you give me seems like a tranny problem - just before a shift.

It would be easy to scope out the coil pack to see if it has faults.  Same with MAF.

Have you had cyl. compression test done?  Test fuel pressure too!

Best of luck,
