Land Rover Repair: BeCM for Power Sunroof, becm, power sunroof

Question
2001 Range Rover, I checked to see why my car remain Sunroof Open, after a manual close. the power button is not operational. I had a technician look at the problem, and said all look okay. Then was told to change the BECM for the sunroof and then recheck. This seems like hefty cost, when not certain with the diagnostic. After paying $200 for this lame diagnostic, reluctant to shell out 1900 dollars for the replacement BECM. Any thoughts on better or reasonable altenatives

Answer
The BECM does control the sunroof.  What I would do is find a shop with the proper Rover test system ( t4 or autologic ) to talk to the BECM.  If it seems bad I'd have them follow up by actually testing the wires.

Otherwise,, its just a guess.

And one more thing . . . you cannot swap the BECM without the special Rover test system, and if you unplug it without the tester you will lose alarm synchronization and the car won't start any more.  So be sure the shop has the knowledge and tools before they start.
