Land Rover Repair: ABS Sensor Chime, honest mechanic, abs light

Question
Hi John,

The ABS sensor on my DISCO II 2000 chimes while driving once in-a-while, about every 2 or 3 days.  I recently took it to my regular repair guy and he says the sensor is fine, the brakes are fine, and really doesn't get any faulty reading during his electronic check.  He said no need to spend $300 on new sensor and mentioned to just ignore the chime for now until the ABS senor light on the dash comes on.  My repair guy is a really honest mechanic, lets me know what in fact needs fixing, I'm lucky I know, but just want to see if there might be something he might be missing.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
D.

Answer
Hi Dennis,

its true that many Disco owners have ABS sensors they'd like to rip out and throw in the garbage.  If your ABS light is on solid I would have it serviced.  Your 2000 Disco must be detecting some anomalies in the ABS which could be false readings.  If the chimes become a nuisance, I'd have the sensors checked, otherwise, be content to know that your ABS system is working and letting you know so.

I'm glad you have a mechanic to help you out when you need it.  Over sensitive ABS signals are common in most Disco's.
Its the ABS dash light you have to worry about.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
