Land Rover Repair: freelander keeps stopping, two occassions, amplifier

hi there think ur site is great! ive bought a 98r 5dr 1.8 exi petrol freelander the problem is after a couple of hours driving the engine seems to cut like its not getting fuel the tempeture gauge is fine so its not overheating? but when i leave it for an 1hr its fine again it will drive for another 1hr then cut out again even more so when i approach a hill, i have to do this on all long journeys stop and start! land rover could not find the problem on two occassions by the time it gets to the garuage its fine again, theyve changed the rota arm thats all, what is the problem?

Hi Thomas,

so your engine cuts out after warming up.  It could be a failing spark amplifier module.  When they overheat they can give the problem you describe.  There are kits available to relocate the spark amplifier module to avoid overheating.

Leave your freelander with LR and have them run the vehicle longer.  Clearly, a problem exists and they are not patient enough to do a thorough search.  Now's the time to raise your voice with the service manager.
