Land Rover Repair: suspension/ engien, speedy muffler, tensioner pulley

Question
I recienly bought a 96 land rover SE7 and a few weeks after I bought it there was a clunk coming from under the vehicle. There was also a whining in the engien that I think is coming from the  fan but I am not sure.

Answer
Hi Colm,

could be balljoint problems.  High mileage Disco's have this and a few other possible suspension problems.  Have it inspected at a reputable brake and suspension shop.  Mienke, Midas, Speedy muffler, PEP Boys, Advance auto all have good parts that can fit your Disco.

The whinning you mention could be a bearing beginning to fail on either your alternator, steering or water pump.  Its also possible that the tensioner pulley bearing could be failing.  Best to have a mechanic take a good look (in this case listen) to isolate the noise and find the failing component.

Best of luck,
