Land Rover Repair: LR Discovery 1 Manuals?, yellow cables, haynes manual

Question
John,

Hey, thanks so much for the help.

I pulled the SRS fuse from my fuse box and the light still comes on (it blinks faintly) on the instrument panel.  THere is a "secondary" SRS fuse but it's also tied into other instrument panel lights so I don't want to pull that in fear of the other things it's linked to not working.

Can I pull the two front plugs (SRS plugs in front) under the hood and see if they're rusted or dirty? Or will that possibly cause the airbags to deploy when I reconnect the plugs?

This SRS light is bugging me.

FYI. I tried to order the Haynes manual for LR Disco and they said they don't have one for US it's an all british version. What up??

SRS light:  the problem could be in the sensors on the front bumper.  Did you LR mechanics check them out?  I know of many Disco owners who have pulled the fuses (protected in yellow plastic) and have left the fuses out - permanently.  No more SRS light.  The bags may be in good shape but the connectors are prone to rust.  Again, this is a LR area and be careful when working around airbags.

Answer
Hi Jeff,

DON'T TOUCH THOSE FRONT PLUGS!  Work only with the fuses when dealing with the SRS.  I was once told to never touch the yellow cables in the engine compartment - ever!

I have little experience with the SRS and have heeded this warning.  My advice with SRS is to get LR help - the risks of error are to great and you don't want to find out you made a mistake while on the turnpike!

As for the Haynes manual, it is true that it exists only for the UK market HOWEVER it can be applied for us here in North America.  All the components are the same, just that some parts are located on the wrong side (the Brits would say right side!) Some terms are different but you'll recognize almost 99% of them.

I had my hardcover book for years and it has paid for itself many times over.  Order this book - even if told for UK only.  I got mine directly form Haynes in the US.  They would be glad to help you out.  Contact them directly:

California - 1-800-4-HAYNES (442-9637)
Tennessee - 1-800-242-4637

Explain that you own a UK vehicle and they'll locate the book for you.  #3016  Its a hardcover version instead of the usually softcover - unless they've changed this.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
