Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Dis - Catalitic Converter, catalitic converters, google search

Question
Ran across your name in a google search on Land Rovers.  My 97 Disco has rattles in the catalitic converters and was told they are toast and would cost $1,000 to replace.  Any experience in this area and being a 97, does LR still warranty these units?

Thanks

Bob

Answer
Hi Bob,

sorry. LR protects itself well in the area of warranties.  Unless you purchase your Disco recently from a LR dealer, I don't think you have any coverage on your cats.

If you are in North America, you can buy some aftermarket cats to replace your OEM cats.  Bosal has the "Y" pipe* part number 098-298.  www.bosal.com

Another reputable aftermarket maker is Borla.  They have the cats as well.  Imagine, a complete exhaust system from Borla (from cats to tailpipe) is $638.99  I'm sure you can have just the cats for much less!  www.borla.com for answers.

I have a Borla exhaust on my '95 Disco.  LR dealer wanted $1500 installed.  Ya...sure!  I search the web and found a local dealer who had Borla...$600 later, I'm back on the road.

If you are sure your problem is the cats, check with your local auto parts shop (Advance, NAPA, UAP).

Best of luck,

JohnMc

* Depending on which engine you have.  3.9 has a Y pipe with both cats.
