Land Rover Repair: 97 Disco rear window problem, rear doors, 12 volt

Question
Initially they started off workinging on occasion.  I would need to wait about 10 minutes of driving before they would "kick in " and work.  Now they do not respond at all.  Had it checked by a local mechanic and have even took the window switch cover off and one of the rear doors off and the switches seem to be good.  Could it be a ground (because BOTH dont work) and if so, where is that possible ground
Thanx
Dirk

Answer
Hi D;

the window is controlled by a ECU located in the sidepanel of the passenger footwell.  It is a common problem you are describing...I have this phantom window problem too!

I've been told that it could be an oversensitive component or perhaps the soldered pins are shorting.  Could be related to the terrible water leak we often find in the same footwell.

The only fix I know is dealer replacement.  Some owners have risked all and bypassed this window ecu but it is not recommended.  Part of the security system.

I have heard that if your rear windows ever freeze in the down position, running a 12 volt current on pin 7 will raise them.  I have not confirmed this, BTW.

Best of luck,
