Land Rover Repair: ignition locked, cha ching, gear shift

Question
I can insert my key into the ignition but it will not turn.  Th sterring and gear shift is locked. This is a 1997 Discovery I.

Any suggestions?

Hi Joe,

It could be the ignition barrel that needs replacing. I've been told the immobiliser receiver in the steering column on older Disco's has as history of failing. Not sure it this is the same problem though.  

Keys are very soft metal and I've broken a couple in my time.  Last time, I had to hire a locksmith to remove the broken tip.  Try venting the lock with compressed air then some lubrication to help ease the key into place.  Last resort is a visit to the dealer (cha-ching $)
