Land Rover Repair: water leaks from front footwell ventilation vents, cracked area, water leaks

Question
Hi, I have a LR Disco ES 1997 300Tdi auto. I am experiencing the problem of fresh clean water soaking the front footwell carpets, the water drops from the front footwell ventialtion vents at the bottom of the center console. I have checked the drain holes at rhe sides of the air intake under the bonnet at the bottom of the windscreen and they are clear, altough some water is still pooling in this area. Any advise would be greatfuly recieved.

Answer
Hello David,

here is a note I saw in a conversation on the internet:

If this area is so wet I would check the body mountings on the bulkhead (where it mounts to the chassis). Down here, with rough roads, a lot of them break up, the bulkhead cracks and when driving along in wet conditions, water spray off the road gets in through the cracks and saturates the carpets completely. My 96 Disco did this.

Solution is either a) take EVERYTHING out to weld and repair the mountings, or b) expend 2 full tubes of silicone sealant around, over and through the cracked area and then stick the carpet back in, much easier  There was a techie bulletin on this fault published by LR a few years ago, you can get a proper repair kit, but it is only supposed to happen to a handful of vehicles used seriously off road, not quite the case! But it may not be this, you'll tell if you have a close look at the mountings in the engine bay, with a torch, because the cracks will be quite obvious.

Sounds like spray leakage to me. I wish you luck on this.  I know that my '95 Disco use to gather water just infront of the windshield.  I drilled two holes at extreme ends to allow the pooling water to drip into the engine compartment area.  Problem solved.  I had used caulking to seal as many cracks and welds a I could find.  Just in case.

I wish you luck with this.
