Land Rover Repair: disco slow to accelerate, exhaust shop, loud noise

Hello John,

 Thanks for your time. I own a 99 Discovery with 61k on it. I've only had had it 18 months and now it seems very sluggish when trying to accelerate...and very loud. I guess my question is,is this normal? Are we talking a major repair here? Thanks again for your time.

Hello Trey,

this sounds like it might be an exhaust or even catalytic conv. problem.  

Does the loud noise come from below center of vehicle? If yes, its the cat.conv.   Fortunately, your 99 should have a 3 part exhaust system.  You can have your cat.conv. replaced without purchasing the entire system.  Have this tested at a local exhaust shop and save yourself some $$$

The only other area I can think of is the electronic ignition or injection areas.  When was your Disco last tuned?  Spark plugs, wires, air filter, fluids replaced?  

SO, it could be just exhaust related.  Not a major repair.
