Chevrolet Repair: 1989 v2500 suburban stuck rear drum, rear drums, screw drivers

Question
I can't seem to get one of the rear drums off my truck. The screw drivers and pounding trick won't work because the drum and backing plate overlap too far to get any leverage. When I get the screw driver hooked on the backing plate it is parallel to the axle and only pries perpendicular to the direction needed.  The drum is stuck on the axle lip.  The other side came off with little to no effort.

Answer
Well you will need to heat up the drumaround the the flange that goes to the axle and then try beating the tar out of it.  Also if you have openings in the backing plate try backing off the shoes with the adjuster that will help get the drum off right away.
