Land Rover Repair: transferbox, range rover owners, rangie


Question
when taking off from a stop it sound like something is crack inside the transfer box right wear the brake drum is on the transfer box im thinking on disasamble that part of the transfer box to visually inspect insideto see how is inside the drum if there is any other cause that tyou might helpme with it will come handy.im ray from massachusetts.thank you so much the car is a 06 of 96 production date range rover

Hi Raymond,

Sounds like a gearing that is about to fail and is being worn down. It happens only from a stop...this sounds more like a differential or CV joint problem.  Next time you use your Rangie, as you slowly move the vehicle...turn the wheel and listen for clunking or crunching sounds.  If so, then its the CV joint.  

Its quite possible that the brake cable may be causing the problem too!
