Land Rover Repair: Re: Water in the boot, professional shop, leaf blower

Question
Hello John

I have owned a LR Freelander since October 2003 it's 1.8 T reg model, it's my first 4x4, it's a five door and I'm very impressed, but I have a niggle.

I opened the lockable compartment in the boot to find that it was a couple of inches deep in water.

My first thoughts was this was condensation but it seemed an awful lot of condensation. Then I thought it must be a leak, I dried the compartment out and and left the car in the rain and it stayed dry. I know for a fact nothing has been spilled in he boot and if I leave the compartment open, which is not a real solution, it stays dry.

I'm worried about corrosion.

Can you help? Thanks in advance.

Garry

Answer
Hi Garry,

I am only aware of a boot seal problem.  Perhaps this is how the water got in.  Too much water to even consider condensation...if it was moist, maybe...but a couple of inches!

Soak up all the water and use a hair dryer.  Leaf blower may be too much!

If it's a 2003, your should be still under warranty.  I'd go directly to the dealer and complain.  Do you have a corrosion warranty ... 6 years outside ... yes?

I've read that the underside of the Freelander is not covered by the corrosion warranty.  You may want to check with your dealer...  If this is true, I would have a professional shop perform a Waxoyl job (undercoating) on your Freelander.  Should reduce your concerns about corrosion.  Well worth the money if you intend to keep it for 4 or more years.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
