My drink holder in the passenger section will not open. How do you pull the whole thing out to look at it?

I can only tell you about my '95 Disco.  I've replaced the tray only once.

There are two small gears that aide in moving the tray in and out.  There is also a small specialized wire found in the centre of the tray.  You'll have to go underneath the tray to look for this wire.  If you pinch the wire together, it should allow you to clear the stop tab and then the tray will slide out completely.  Don't force the tray...take your time.  I replaced my tray and it cost me over $110 Canadian dollars.
