Land Rover Repair: Dicso Engine Noise, gas combustion, combustion engine

Question
You know how when you first start a normal gas combustion
engine, there is sometimes a knocking noise from the crankshaft
until the oil gets flowing? Well, it seems that my '96 Disco has
that noise, except all the time. It is very, very minor and almost
sounds like a muffled diesel sound. Very quiet but present. As a
matter of fact, you can only hear it when the windows are rolled
down. Should I be concerned? The vehicle has less than 50K
original miles on it. Yes, that is correct. No type-o. It is also the
yellow XD if that makes a difference. My first inclination is to
drive it like this until it becomes a problem, or the engine
grenades. Suggestions?

Hi Reagan,

I'd have it checked out by your LR dealer.  Just an exam to see what's wrong.   Sounds like it could be timing problem, or maybe valve adjustments.  Get an estimate BEFORE it grenades.  Could be more expensive if ignored and allowed to progress.

Estimates are not expensive and can tell you how long you've got before complete failure.  Gives you time to consider your options, request repair or DIY.
