Volkswagen: 79 vw fuel injected, mid america, temperature sensor

I have a 79 bug conv. It will start up with no problem..then it won't start up right after. It will sit for about an hour and restart again with no problem but if I turn it off it won't start again. It will try to turn over but won't kick in. What's the problem?

Most likely, it's the temperature sensor.   Fortunately, they are very inexpensive and available at Mid America Motorworks for about 16 bucks.   It is located right next to #3 cylinder.  No engine disassembly required. Simply, unplug it, unscrew it and you are done.
