Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Freelander 1.8XE 65000km, cylinder head gasket, land rover freelander

Question
On December 30th i get my car back from a repair on a leaking gasket from the gearbox, replacement from the suspension of the gearbox, and replacement of two balls (ball bearing)from the cardan axle.

On january 1st a get a broken cylinderhead gasket.

Could that broken cylinderhead gasket be an result from a wrong replaced gearbox?

After the repair of the cylinderhead gasket my steering wheal start to shake at 140km/ph, and I still hear the noice of a broken ball bearing at the back of my car.

Should I sell this car after only 2,1/2 year? I get the opportunity to buy a discovery with 31000km from march 2003 for 32755€ from the same garage?

Thank in advance for your advice

Answer
Bonjour Didier,

Judging by the description of problems you are having with your Freelander, I would say the cylinder head gasket problem is unrelated to your gearbox gasket.  As for the sudden change in steering (shakes at 140km/h) that could be related to poor work.  You mentioned you had bearing work done.  I'd take it back and have them fix it - you already paid for the work!

Your Freelander has only 65000kms and all these problems are happening - imagine what can go wrong AFTER the warranty has expired?   I would not keep it for long.

If you like LandRovers then take a good look around.  If you think your dealer was fair to you, then stay with them.  If you've been mistreated in any way, find another dealer.

A 2003 Discovery is a much different than the Freelander.  More power, more stability, more room.  Before you buy any Disco, have it inspected THOROUGHLY by a LR dealer you can trust!

Best of luck,

JohnMc
