Question
The driver pulley went out on my Lexus GS300 & I switched that out along with the belt.  The engine sounds great however when I put in drive it doesn't go forward I press on the gas & it only rev's up.  It does the same when I put it in reverse.  Normally if its the transmission it would move a little or have a smell if it gave out, this is not the case I hit the gas and the only thing that happens is that it rev's up.  Also when I go from reverse to drive or neutral i can feel or hear it shift?

-----Question-----
Car will start and accelerate however does not pick up any gears either forward or reverse, I had guy look at & said hr didn't think it was the tranny any ideas what it could be.  He stated possibly it was the belt.  Please help.
-----Answer-----
It's the engine.
Warm it up & do a compression / leakdown test, Do a vacuum test. Check for proper spark at all plugs. Check that there is sufficient fuel pressure at the fuel rail & make sure the fuel injectors are not stuck.

Answer
Quit playing with it the transmission is slipping.
Flush the transmission fluid out with fresh fluid using the cooler lines, or drain the pan, re-fill. Let the engine idle in park for about 5 minutes. Shift to all gear positions & shut off the car. Do that atleast 3 times to change statistically about 80% of the fluid.

At the end of changing the fluid, however you do it. Let the engine idle until completely warm, shift to all positions for afew seconds. And with the car idling in park, pull the dipstick & check the fluid level. It should read to the FULL, HOT mark. No less.
