Lexus Repair: buying a air flow senser 93 es 300, lexus toyota, combustion chamber

Question
93 es300 and has been studdering a little at the higher rpms after it's been on for a 2 min. Me and my father in law who is a diesel machanic did everything we could to fix but it didn't work out. We got fed up and paid to have it hooked up to a scanner that told us that the air flow senser is bad, so do you know where i could get it for a fare price on the internet? because brand new from dealer is rediculous. I guess you have to buy the whole thing not just the senser? also a little of the subject but what does the ECT button do that is on the automatic shifter like the over drive button? any help would be appriciated. thanks
Pat

Answer
Let me put it this way. The chances of the AFM being damaged, unless you rip it apart yourself, is ungodly low. Not only that, but you can't hook it up to a scanner unless you have a specific Vetronix scanner that costs atleast $6,000 for the cheapie one. At this point, quite a few Lexus & Toyota dealers no longer have them either. So you'll never find an independant mechanic that will have one.

Set the crankshaft to 0*btdc & check the cam timing.
Set TE1 & E1 & check that the ignition timing is 10*btdc.
Check the amount of vacuum from the vacuum testing port on the side of the engine.
Warm the engine & do a compression, or leak-down test.
Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
Check that the injectors are operating correctly.
Clean the throttlebody, ISC valve & EGR valves BY HAND.
Change the distributor cap & rotor.
Inspect the plug wires & coil lead.
Change the spark plugs.
NGK, or DENSO ONLY. ***Anything*** else will run like complete & total ass, period. You have been warned..............
Seafoam the intake, or use water injection to bust the carbon out of the combustion chamber.

The ECT button changes the shift pattern of the transmission. Despite widely popular belief, the up-shift conditions for accellerating are NOT changed. The actual change is in the downshift conditons when decellerating. It will hold gear signifigantly longer.
