Lexus Repair: HELP catalytic converter, high flow cat, power economy

Question
The catalytic converter in my 98 GS 300 rattles. No other problems. Should I replace now ? I don't want to spend 1600 now if I don't have to. My car has 12600 miles on it. Please explain specifically (female).  Thanks in advance!

Answer
Well it's out of warranty. (I'm assuming you mean 126,000 miles, regardless it's 9 years old anyways & out of warranty)

Forget that crap. Look sweetie. Aslong as you don't live with the communists in California. (that's a joke...) Buy a universal high-flow cat converter for about $60-75.

Take it to an exhaust shop, or a performance shop in your area & have them cut the old one out & put new the one in.

If you have emessions testing, yes. You'll fail it without an operating cat. If you don't it's just going to plug up your exhaust as it falls apart. Power & economy will go right out the window.
