Hi! On a 94 Lexus es300 engine runs very smoothly but dies suddenly. was only intermittent but now only runs a minute or two and dies every time. sometimes will restart when key is turned completely off and back on. or sometimes takes a few minutes before it will restart. when it dies, there is no spark.  have replaced crank position sensor and "exciter."  can't drive the car to have codes read at shop (and Autozone says they can only read 96 & above).  check engine light stays on.  what do you recommend?  thanks

Hello there,
If you have access to a good scope. I would scope out the cams sensor. There are two of them.  Why did you replace the crank sensor? Was it bad? How was the wave pattern? Thank you.

Jason, thanks for the quick reply.  I don't have a scope and i'm trying to help my sister avoid more costs w/o pinpoint answers. has already been checked by dealer when problem was  intermittent, but car didn't die for them. problem has deteriorated rapidly. changed crank position sensor because we thought it was failing as engine heated. we removed it and cooled it rapidly, replaced it and car started and ran for a while. however problem has only worsened.  unplugged one cam sensor (I think)w/no change to running engine. where is other cam sensor?  thanks!

Answer
Darryl,
The other cam sensor located in the back of the head. You would need a good scope to properly diagnost this problem.  I wouldn't just swap the parts out. It would cost you more money and time. Also, We've seen a tooth broken off the crank pulley tooth. If you need further info, I will be happy to send you some testing procedures. Good luck sir.
