Lexus Repair: LX470 engine replacement, american muscle cars, lexus toyota

Question
Thanks Jason! What a pain it is though. Those two bolts on the top of the bell housing are tough to get at but the wiring harness is even worse. We work mostly on (front-engine) Porsches, Mercedes and old American muscle cars. It seems Toyota doesn't put a lot of emphasis on servicability. I turned away an LX470 starter replacement job the other day too. I think we'll leave these cars to the experts like yourself and stick to what we know!  Thank You for your help though! (I think I may sign on to answer some questions too.) Ray @ RAM Automotive, Raleigh, NC

-----Question-----
I have to replace the engine in an LX470 SUV. (4.7 inline 6)Is it best to remove the engine and transmission as a unit or should I remove the engine by itself? I have a commercial duty engine hoist and more tools & equipment than most shops.
-----Answer-----
Hello Ray,
It's best to remove the engine and transmission separately.  The transmission would take 2 people to tackle. Good luck sir.

Answer
Ray,
The Lx470 is a little harder but the rest of the lexus family isn't too bad.  BTW, A starter on Lx470 would take us 2 hrs to R&R.  Nice talking to you. Take care.
