hi, i have a 1993 ls400 and the starter needs to be repalced. my mechanic quoted me a price of $400 for labor alone (i supplied him with the part).  does that sound like too high of a price ?

 $400 is very reasonable for for this kind of job.  Since it's a 93, You would have to remove a couple more vaccum hoses and EGR system. The intake manifold would have to come off.  Drop the the transmission down just a bit to gain access to your (2)14mm starter bolt.   For an experience lexus tech would be 3-4 hrs.  Regular tech would take 5-8hrs for job.  Please make sure replace your runner gaskets.  Good luck.
