Lexus Repair: replacing sparkplugs/tuneup, lexus toyota, toyota tech

Question
Hi Zak:

How do I replace the sparkplugs and tune up my 1999RX300.  Can I do this myself? I purchased my vehicle used last year and currently have 100,000 miles on the car.  I've been receiving quotes from $500 - $900 for his service. I drive a lexus not a jet.

Help!
Ray

Answer
Hello, Well just a tune up (plugs, air filter) here costs about $220.00. A full say 90k service which includes the tune up is $1185.00. This is not a easy job and I would not use anyone but a quality factory trained Lexus or Toyota tech. Repairs not done properly are a lot more expensive. Take the transmission, it uses special TypeIV Lexus/Toyota fluid only a specialist would have. Using the wrond fluid like a Dexron can cause lots of problems, about 5k worth. Keep in mind this is a Lexus not a Yugo : )
