Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Lincoln Town Car, lincoln town car, warranty claim

Question
I have a 96 Lincoln Town Car, and I have put a new transmittion in and while I'm driving down the road, all of a sudden, I cant accelerate, I hear the engine rev up then it kick back into gear, but happens a lot. I took it back to the shop and they said it has something to do with bank 2? or they said it was running lean, is that a possiballity? thanks alot, Pat

Answer
Hi Pat,

The transmission is no good. The band adjustment is set incorrectly and likely has burned up the unit. Low fluid would cause this too, but seeing how you took it back to them, they at least should have checked that so I am assuming the level is good. Bank 2 is the left head assembly on the engine. What he was referring to would be an engine concern caused by an O2 sensor and that code he says he got should have said Bank 2, Position either 1 or 2, but would have nothing to do with the neutralizing you are describing to me. If it was rebuilt, it could be a shady manager's attempt to put you off on your warranty claim. If it is a Ford unit purchased from Ford, it can be repaired at any Ford dealer, you will need some paperwork that you get with a unit such as that. If it is a junkyard unit, well, it is what it is.
