Lincoln/Mercury Repair: transmission not shifting, yunk yard, reputable shop

i have a 1993 cougar that the over drive went out so i went to a yunk yard and got one out of a 1992 Thunderbird and put it in the couger ok the transmission engage fine but has a delay win  shifty to the higher gears the rpms goes up to3500 or more before shifty but does have all the gears the overdrive goes in about 65 to 70 mph can this be fixed or do i need to take it back and try again  not have the money to get a new rebuild  what should i do   thank  kenny

Yeah, been here seen this before. Remember that the transmission out of that 92 is 14 years old. If the guy that had it drove just 10,000 miles a year, you have a transmission with at least 140,000 miles on it. Save your money and do it right, have it rebuilt by a reputable shop, say Cottman for instance. I have never seen a junk yard transmission work for more than a few months.
