Question
Thanks Dinger, I do appreciate you trying to help me, understandable that it's hard to really come up with answers without the car right there in front of you, you did give me hope that it could be an easy affordable fix and for that i am grateful, but i guess it's just not meant to be. oh well thats life, if life was easy we would all have it made in the shade, right?.

okay, how would i know if the wire to from the alternator to the starter is fried is that easy to check? I thought maybe it could be a fried wire on the starter, but seems some people i've talked to think it fried the computer, oh god i hope not, your tech said nothing about computer? my husband has a voltemeter do we check for power on alternator and starter with that? I have no manual to show me where fuseable links are located and of course owners book that came with the car shows nothing, could you tell me where their located? and what they look like? i've checked under the hood and can not find anything.I hope it's a simple fix. Thanx.

I own a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis GS, yesterday as i was driving downtown somehow the bracket to the battery holder fell off and onto across the battery terminals it melted them and of course engine shutdown, my husband put new terminals on but when i turn the key nothing not even a click, the lights, radio and etc. work, so we replaced the battery, checked all fuses and still nothing when i turn the key, please help i dont have the money for a mechanic to look at it, i'm hopeing it something simple, i want my car back

Answer -
Hi Rose,

My ace tech here at the shop told me to have you guys check for power to thr back of the alternator. He feels, if it's not a fusable link, then the wire from the alternator to the starter is BBQed.

Answer -
Rose,

Yes, use the VOM to check everything. See if there is power to the back of the alternator and use it to check all the fuses. The fusible link and relays are in the junction box under the hood. They are labeled.

Follow up: Hey Rose, can you guys jump this and get it started?

Answer -
Well Rose honey, I wish I could give you more, there are just to many things that a trained technician needs to check. I am so sorry this happened to you guys. If I had the car in front of me then I could get this done for you, but I just need my hands on it. Again, I'm sorry. I want to help you, but it's to big.

Answer
Hi Rose,

This still might not be so bad. But you will need to have a professional take a look I'm afraid. It could be a fried wire, but it could be a fried wire anywhere... Wire is cheap so find a real nice guy that won't take you for a ride that knows about auto electronics. Not the dealer for this...please!
