Lincoln/Mercury Repair: engine stalls, preventative maintainance, mercury sable

Question
1990 mercury sable with 3.8 engine with 87,000 miles.  bought this car
8 months ago from a little old lady.  just took it in 3 days ago for
first tune-up (new plugs, timing, gas filter)also did new oil filter and
oil change and changed transmission filter and fluid.
car has stalled out 4 times since then. twice at stoplight and twice
while driving in slow traffic. starts right up after stall. never stalled
out before got this tune-up. what might be possible reasons?  taking it
back to shop on monday.  what would you suggest telling them?
thanks for your time.

Answer
HI Jon,

I suggest telling they to fix it! LOL There are so many things this could be. Timing is set by the computer, but that wouldn't be it anyway, fuel filter in backwards, crossed plug wires, unplugged sensors. But I need to tell you and you can read in my other posts, you should not have changed your transmission fluid. 87,000 miles is prime time for that transmission to let go. That's the #2 transmission we overhaul. The #1 reason we overhaul transmissions is folks trying to do the right thing with preventative maintainance i.e. changing their transmission fluid. I think your shop let you down by not telling you that before changing it. See my previous posts for an indepth explanation of this.
